About Spanish From Square One
Spanish From Square One is a free, comprehensive course designed to help you learn Spanish in the most natural, intuitive way possible: by reading, listening, and absorbing the language instead of memorizing grammar rules or rushing to speak.
I created this project because, despite the many language apps, textbooks, and YouTube channels available, there wasn't one clear, complete path through Spanish built on input, from your very first hola to the Spanish people in Mexico use with each other every day. Most courses begin with grammar too early, push you to speak before you're ready, or offer disjointed lessons with little progression.
Traditional language learning often emphasises performance (speaking, writing, and testing) before you have time to understand the language naturally. This approach can lead to guessing and reinforcing mistakes. Studying grammar means you're thinking about the language rather than experiencing it.
We naturally learn our first language by hearing it all around us, gradually making sense of it, and speaking only when ready. This course follows that model, based on comprehensible input and inspired by methods such as Antimoon, AJATT (All Japanese All The Time), and the ALG Method.

This project is a one-person endeavor. I'm not a company, and I'm not trying to build a business out of this. I created Spanish From Square One because I truly believe that quality language education should be accessible to everyone without cost.

How This Course Was Made
Every lesson is written carefully for its level. The levels follow the Common European Framework of Reference and the Instituto Cervantes' Plan Curricular, which describes the grammar, topics and tasks of each level of Spanish from A1 to C2. Each conversation is built around a few grammar points of its level, uses the vocabulary of that level and below, and gives every speaker the way of speaking their situation calls for.
Every lesson is then checked: automatically, against the word and grammar lists and the length and forms of address set for its level, and by reading it again for natural Spanish, the right level, and an accurate translation.
Mistakes can still slip through. If you spot one, press the small flag next to the line and tell me what's wrong: every report is read, and the line gets fixed. Audio in AI voices is the next step, and it will appear on each lesson as it is made.
I handled the heavy lifting (planning the levels, writing and checking the conversations) so you can focus on learning. Simply come, read, and trust the process.
