Day 111: Felt Pads for Noisy Chairs

At a hardware store in Guadalajara, Cuauhtémoc (A), a young man whose downstairs neighbor keeps complaining about his scraping chairs, asks the salesclerk, Alicia (B), for help.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Excuse me, do you have anything for chairs? The noise bothers my neighbor.

    And how do they go on? Do you just stick them on?

    Sí, pero primero se limpian bien las patas, o se despegan.

    Yes, but you clean the legs well first, or they come off.

    Deme dos paquetes. Vivo aquí enfrente y ahorita los pongo.

    I'll take two packs. I live right across the street, and I'll put them on right away.

  6. B

    ¿Enfrente? Con razón ayer vino una señora de ahí por tapones para oídos.

    Across the street? No wonder a lady from there came in yesterday for earplugs.
