Day 174: Just Gave Blood, Need a Juice

At a café across from an IMSS hospital in Monterrey (the IMSS is Mexico's social security institute), Vanesa (A), a young woman, calls over José Luis (B), the waiter.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Excuse me, could you bring me something sweet? I just gave blood and I feel dizzy.

    At the IMSS hospital across the street? Sit down, I'll bring you something right away.

    Sí, para mi tío. Y estaba tan nerviosa que casi no desayuné.

    Yes, for my uncle. And I was so nervous I hardly had any breakfast.

    Tenga, un jugo vampiro: betabel, zanahoria y naranja. Mi mamá siempre lo recomienda.

    Here you are, a 'vampire juice': beet, carrot and orange. My mom always recommends it.

    Vampire? Just what I need after giving blood!

    Ella es enfermera en el hospital donde usted acaba de donar. ¡A lo mejor la atendió!

    She's a nurse at the hospital where you just gave blood. She may even have looked after you!
