Day 192: Waiting for the Prepa Results

In the courtyard of their building in Toluca, two neighbors, Celia (A) and Eloísa (B), wait for the results of the entrance exam their children, who are best friends, took for the best prepa in town (the prepa is high school, from fifteen to eighteen).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Have the results come out yet? The kids won't put their phones down.

    Todavía no. Dicen que a las seis, y ya son las seis y diez.

    Not yet. They say six o'clock, and it's already ten past.

    Ojalá que quede el mío. Es la mejor prepa de Toluca, y está cerquita.

    I hope mine gets in. It's the best prepa in Toluca, and it's just around the corner.

    Pues yo nada más quiero que esto se acabe. ¡Ya no duermo!

    Well, I just want it to be over. I can't sleep anymore!

    ¡Oiga! ¿Es su hija la que grita desde la ventana?

    Listen! Is that your daughter shouting from the window?

    ¡Dice que quedaron los dos! Ojalá que ahora sí podamos dormir.

    She says they both got in! Let's hope we can finally get some sleep.
