Day 200: Birria or Barbacoa in Line

In line at a famous birria stand in Guadalajara (birria is spicy stewed meat), Feliciano (A), a local man, starts talking to Alexander (B), a young visitor from Hidalgo, a state known for its barbacoa.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    ¡Pues la birria es mejor que la barbacoa! Debe probarla con su consomé.

    Well, birria's better than barbacoa! You should try it with the broth.

    Con todo respeto, no creo que sea mejor. La barbacoa de Actopan no tiene rival.

    With all due respect, I don't think it's better. Nothing beats barbacoa from Actopan.

    Eso dicen todos los de Hidalgo, hasta que la prueban.

    That's what everyone from Hidalgo says, until they try it.

    Bueno, debería probarla antes de decidir. Si me gusta, le invito un taco.
