Day 40: My Best Friend Changed Tables

At a middle school in Toluca, Abdiel (A), a student, stays behind after class to talk to his teacher, Alfredo Mejía (B).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Mr. Mejía, my best friend doesn't sit with me anymore.

    I've noticed. Does it bother you a lot?

    Me duele, la verdad. Ni sé qué le hice.

    It hurts, to be honest. I don't even know what I did to him.

    No te lo tomes a pecho. Y no lo ignores.

    Don't take it personally. And don't ignore him.

    Sale, mañana lo saludo. Si me ignora, me siento con usted.

    OK, I'll say hello to him tomorrow. If he ignores me, I'm sitting with you.
