Day 75: Red Flag at Playa del Carmen

On the beach at Playa del Carmen, Jorge Luis (A), a lifeguard, calls out to Michelle (B), a young tourist from Guadalajara who is wading out into the sea.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    A red flag? But the sea looks so calm!

    Sí, pero hay corrientes. No se meta más allá de las rodillas.

    It does, but there are currents. Don't go in deeper than your knees.

    Ay, ¿y podría decirme dónde sí puedo nadar?

    Oh, so could you tell me where I can swim?

    Hoy, en ningún lado. Debería ir a la alberca del hotel.

    Nowhere, today. You should go to the hotel pool.

    ¿A la alberca? Para eso me quedaba en Guadalajara.

    The pool? I might as well have stayed in Guadalajara.
