Day 135: Three Days Back at the Office

At an advertising agency in Villahermosa, the manager, Santiago (A), meets the two young members of his team, Agustina (B), a copywriter, and Tristán (C), a designer, who have been working from home.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Muchachos, los socios quieren que volvamos a la oficina tres días por semana. ¿Qué opinan?

    Guys, the partners want us back in the office three days a week. What do you think?

    Nos alegra que nos pregunte; en mi trabajo anterior, nomás mandaban un correo.

    We're glad you're asking us; at my last job, they just sent an email.

    A mí me preocupa que perdamos una hora diaria en el trayecto.

    What worries me is losing an hour a day commuting.

    Lo sé, pero las mejores ideas nos salían en el pasillo, no en videollamada.

    I know, but our best ideas used to come up in the hallway, not on video calls.

    ¿Y si hacemos una prueba? En cuanto cierre el trimestre, venimos martes y jueves.

    What if we do a trial run? As soon as the quarter closes, we come in on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

    Y una vez que midamos la productividad, usted decide si hace falta el tercer día.

    And once we've measured productivity, you decide whether the third day is needed.
