Day 41: Field Notes Even If It Rains

At the university in Morelia, Karime (A), an anthropology student, tells her professor, Graciela (B), about her plan to document the fiesta patronal, the feast of the patron saint, in Tzintzuntzan, a town near Pátzcuaro.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Even if they won't let you, take notes. Photos aren't everything.

    Sí, estaba tomando notas empapada cuando una familia me invitó a comer. Ahí empezó mi tesis.

    Yes, I was taking notes, soaked through, when a family invited me to eat with them. That's where my thesis began.
