Day 54: The Fonda's New Tablet Menu

At a fonda, a small family-run restaurant, in Coyoacán, Mexico City, Israel (A) and his girlfriend Fátima (B) try to order on the new tablet; Héctor (C) is the owner.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Me neither. Excuse me, sir, where's the lunch special?

    Oh, the system doesn't have that option. Honestly, if it were up to me, we'd still be using the order pad.

    Pues nosotros, felices. ¿Y si mejor nos toma la orden usted, a la antigüita?

    Well, we'd be delighted. Why don't you take our order yourself instead, the old-fashioned way?

    Con gusto, pero finja que le pica a la pantalla: mi hijo nos está viendo.

    Gladly, but pretend you're tapping the screen: my son's watching us.
