Day 101: The Tax Certificate HR Needs

At a design studio in Querétaro, Mateo (A), a graphic designer, asks his colleague Romina (B) how to get a document from the website of the SAT, Mexico's tax authority.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Oye, ¿sabes sacar la dichosa constancia de situación fiscal? Sin ella, Recursos Humanos no puede timbrar mi nómina.

    Hey, do you know how to get this darn tax status certificate? HR can't issue my pay stubs without it.

    ¿Y ellos no te explicaron cómo? Para eso están, ¿no?

    And didn't they explain how? That's what they're there for, isn't it?

    No hay nadie en el área que sepa tramitarla: nada más me reenviaron un correo que dice “urgente”.

    There's nobody in the department who knows how to get it: they just forwarded me an email that says “urgent.”

    Entrando al portal del SAT, le picas a “Genera tu constancia” y pones tu RFC y contraseña.

    Once you're on the SAT website, you click on “Generate your certificate” and put in your tax ID and password.

    Listo, ya la descargué. Lo raro es que sale el código postal de mis papás, en Celaya.

    Done, I've downloaded it. The odd thing is that it's got my parents' zip code, in Celaya.

    ¡Misterio resuelto! Ellos capturaron el de aquí, y si no coincide, el SAT rechaza el recibo.

    Mystery solved! They entered the one for here, and if it doesn't match, the SAT rejects the pay stub.

    ¿Entonces les mando la constancia con Celaya y listo? Hace tres años que no vivo allá.

    So I just send them the certificate with Celaya on it and that's that? I haven't lived there for three years.

    Por hoy, sí, pero luego actualiza tu domicilio. Y a nadie le digas que yo sé, o me ponen a dar asesorías a toda la oficina.

    For today, yes, but update your address afterward. And don't tell anyone I know how, or they'll have me advising the whole office.
