Day 137: A Raise to Match Prices
At a grocery distribution company in Torre贸n, Juan Pablo (A), a young sales assistant, asks his manager, Luis Miguel (B), for a word before a meeting; G贸mez Palacio and Lerdo are neighboring towns.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

La inflaci贸n nos pega a todos, y el margen de la empresa tampoco da para mucho: las ventas llevan meses cayendo.
Inflation hits all of us, and the company's margin doesn't stretch far either: sales have been falling for months.

Eso no te lo discuto. Pero ahorita no puedo prometerte ning煤n incremento sin el visto bueno de Monterrey.
I won't argue with that. But right now I can't promise you any increase without the go-ahead from Monterrey.

Con todo respeto, eso mismo me dijo en enero. No le pido un milagro, solo una fecha y una cifra.
With all due respect, that's exactly what you told me in January. I'm not asking for a miracle, just a date and a figure.

Va: en caso de que la regi贸n suba sus ventas un cinco por ciento para junio, yo mismo defiendo tu aumento.
All right: if the region's sales are up five percent by June, I'll fight for your raise myself.

De acuerdo, y le voy a echar ganas. 驴Y si llegamos antes, lo vemos en mayo?
Agreed, and I'll give it my all. And if we get there sooner, can we look at it in May?
