Day 19: Surveying Our Parents' Jobs

At school in Aguascalientes, Bruno (A) and Ivanna (B), two students in their last year of elementary school, compare the answers their parents gave to a class survey about their jobs.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Have you interviewed your mom yet? By Friday we'll have collected all the surveys.

    Sí, entre mensaje y mensaje. El que conteste cosas del trabajo en la cena me choca.

    Yes, in between messages. The way she answers work stuff at dinner drives me crazy.

    Al menos cenan juntas. Mi papá trabaja de noche en una fábrica.

    At least you two have dinner together. My dad works nights at a factory.

    ¿Y en las tardes? A esa hora ya se habrá despertado, ¿no?

    What about in the afternoons? He'll have woken up by then, won't he?

    Sí, pero anda desvelado y de malas. En serio, nomás convivimos los domingos.

    Yes, but he's short of sleep and grumpy. Honestly, we only really spend time together on Sundays.

    Eso va en la conclusión: el hecho de que tu papá trabaje de noche afecta a toda la familia.

    That goes in the conclusion: the fact that your dad works nights affects the whole family.

    Sale, y tú enséñale los resultados a tu mamá. Igual y hasta suelta el celular.

    OK, and you show the results to your mom. Maybe she'll even put her phone down.
