Day 41: Two Remote Days or Three
At a marketing agency in Mexico City's Polanco district, Horacio (A), the team manager, tells two young members of his team, Karime (B) and Fabián (C), about the company's new hybrid work policy.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

Good news: management has approved the hybrid policy. Starting in October, you'll have two days working from home.

Se lo agradecemos; sin embargo, Fabián y yo traemos una contrapropuesta: tres días en casa.
Thank you for that; however, Fabián and I have a counter-proposal: three days at home.

¿Tres? Ya me lo veía venir: convénzanme con datos, no con ganas de trabajar en pijama.
Three? I saw that coming: convince me with data, not with a longing to work in your pajamas.

En la prueba piloto entregamos todo a tiempo; de hecho, los días en casa rendimos más.
In the pilot we delivered everything on time; in fact, we got more done on the days at home.

No discuto la productividad; en cambio, la colaboración sí se resiente: las ideas salen platicando en la cocineta.
I'm not disputing the productivity; collaboration, on the other hand, does suffer: ideas come from chatting in the kitchenette.

¿Y con qué cabeza platica uno después de dos horas de traslado? Hoy salí de Ecatepec de noche: serían las cinco y media.
And who can think straight enough to chat after a two-hour commute? I left Ecatepec in the dark today: it must have been half past five.

A
Bueno, me convencieron: tres días a prueba, pero los lunes, todos aquí.
All right, you've convinced me: three days as a trial, but on Mondays, everyone's here.

C
De acuerdo. Y si los números siguen subiendo, ¿en enero platicamos de cuatro?
Agreed. And if the numbers keep going up, can we talk about four in January?
