Day 45: Lab Results on the ADO Bus

On an ADO bus from Mexico City to Pachuca, Lizbeth (A), a young woman reading her thyroid test results on her phone, gets talking to Alicia (B), the woman in the next seat.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Sorry, how embarrassing: I've just had some test results and I burst into tears.

    No se apure: soy endocrinóloga. ¿Quiere que les eche un vistazo?

    Don't worry: I'm an endocrinologist. Would you like me to have a look at them?

    Son de la tiroides: la TSH salió en 7.8 y, según internet, tengo hipotiroidismo.

    They're for my thyroid: my TSH came out at 7.8 and, according to the internet, I've got hypothyroidism.

    A ver: el hecho de que esa hormona salga un poco alta no significa que esté enferma. ¿Y la T4 libre?

    Let's see: the fact that this hormone is a bit high doesn't mean you're sick. What about your free T4?

    Aquí dice 1.2. Me puse a leer foros y ya me veía en el quirófano.

    It says 1.2 here. I started reading forums and could already see myself in the operating room.

    Está normal, así que tranquila: puede ser algo transitorio. Pero el que se lo diga yo sin revisarla no sustituye una consulta.

    That one's normal, so relax: it may well be something temporary. But me telling you this without examining you is no substitute for a real appointment.
