Day 70: My First Declaración Anual
At a café in Mexico City, Josué (A), a freelancer filing his first annual tax return on the website of the SAT, Mexico's tax authority, gets help from his friend Isaac (B), who has done it before.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

The psychologist and the glasses are there, but the dentist's is missing, and that was the most expensive one.

Did you ask for an invoice? If you paid in cash, it isn't deductible even with one.

The dentist offered me ten percent off for paying in cash. I thought it was a bargain.

Well, that saving cost you: the more you deduct, the more you get back, and that was your biggest expense.
