Day 100: Back to Grandma's Town in Zacatecas

At home in Tijuana, Jovana (A) has an idea for her grandmother Leonila (B), who left her hometown of Sombrerete, in the state of Zacatecas, as a girl.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.

    Abuela, ¿qué dirías si te llevara a Sombrerete? Hay vuelos a Zacatecas sin escalas.

    Grandma, what would you say if I took you to Sombrerete? There are direct flights to Zacatecas.

    ¡Ay, mija, qué nostalgia! Yo tendría unos diez años cuando nos vinimos.

    Oh, sweetheart, that takes me back! I must have been about ten when we moved here.

    Entonces sería por 1960. De Zacatecas al pueblo nos vamos en camión.

    So that would have been around 1960. From Zacatecas to the town we'll go by bus.

    ¿No te va a salir carísimo? No quiero que gastes tanto por mí.

    Won't that be terribly expensive? I don't want you spending so much on me.

    Por eso quiero apartar los boletos antes de que suban. Dormimos en Zacatecas para que llegues descansada.

    That's why I want to book the tickets before the prices go up. We'll stay the night in Zacatecas so you arrive rested.

    Pues que sea en octubre, antes de los fríos. ¿Quién se acordará de mí?

    Then let's make it October, before the cold weather. I wonder who'll still remember me.
