Day 127: The Friend Who Kept Canceling

At a restaurant in Mérida, three friends, Tamara (A), Noel (B) and Yadira (C), finally meet for dinner after Noel has canceled on the other two for a month.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.

    Finally, Noel! You've been canceling on us for a month; we were starting to think you were mad at us.

    No es eso. La neta, me han dado ataques de pánico y prefiero no salir.

    It's not that. Honestly, I've been having panic attacks, and I'd rather not go out.

  3. C

    Ay, Noel. Aunque no quieras hablar de eso, ¿ya pensaste en ir a terapia?

    Oh, Noel. Even if you don't want to talk about it, have you thought about going to therapy?

    Sí, pero la terapia cuesta un dineral, y ahorita no me alcanza.

    Yes, but therapy costs a fortune, and I can't afford it right now.

    Mira, aquí dice que la clínica de la universidad cobra según lo que ganes.

    Look, it says here the university clinic charges according to what you earn.

    Y dice que la primera consulta es gratis. Aunque cueste, tu salud es primero.

    And it says the first appointment is free. Even if it costs money, your health comes first.

    Sale, mañana pido cita. Y hoy invito yo, por tantas cancelaciones.

    OK, I'll make an appointment tomorrow. And tonight's on me, to make up for all the cancellations.
