Day 138: Ash From Popocatépetl, Flight Tomorrow

At an office in Puebla, Tadeo (A), who is flying to Tijuana tomorrow, keeps checking the news about Popocatépetl, the volcano people call el Popo, while his colleague Valentín (B) looks on.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.

    Volvieron a cerrar el aeropuerto por la ceniza, y mañana vuelo a Tijuana.

    They've closed the airport again because of the ash, and I'm flying to Tijuana tomorrow.

    Ya deja de actualizar la página, Tadeo. Llevas toda la mañana con eso.

    Stop refreshing the page, Tadeo. You've been at it all morning.

    Es que el Popo sigue echando ceniza, y la aerolínea no dice nada.

    It's just that Popo keeps spewing ash, and the airline isn't saying anything.

    Yo que tú, cambiaría el vuelo hoy mismo, antes de que lo hagan todos.

    If I were you, I'd change the flight today, before everyone else does.

    ¿Y si abren mañana y pago la diferencia para nada? Prefiero esperar tantito.

    And what if they open tomorrow and I've paid the difference for nothing? I'd rather wait a bit.

    Pues cuando cierran por el volcán, casi siempre te lo cambian sin costo. Yo al menos preguntaría.

    Well, when they close because of the volcano, they nearly always change it for free. I'd at least ask.

    ¡Mira, dice que reabren a las seis de la mañana! Por eso sigo actualizando.

    Look, it says they're reopening at six in the morning! That's why I keep refreshing.
