Day 179: April's Tax Return on Air

On a morning TV show in Mexico City, the host, Néstor (A), asks two guests about the annual tax return that individuals file with the SAT, the tax authority, in April: Magdalena (B), an accountant, and Nicanor (C), who owns a hardware store.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Magdalena, April's here. What's the most important thing when you file your annual tax return?

    Revisar todo. Cuando entren al portal, no den por buenos los datos que ya vienen precargados.

    ¿Y usted, Nicanor, que tiene una ferretería? ¿Qué aprendió de las declaraciones pasadas?

    And you, Nicanor, with your hardware store? What have you learned from past returns?

    Que lo peor es dejarla para el final. El año pasado se saturó el portal y pagué recargos.

    That the worst thing is leaving it until the end. Last year the portal got overloaded and I paid late fees.

    Coincido: lo bueno de presentarla temprano es que la devolución suele llegar antes.

    I agree: the good thing about filing early is that the refund usually comes sooner.

    Ahí lo tienen: el plazo vence el 30 de abril. Y cuando salgamos del aire, Magdalena, ¿me ayuda con la mía?
