Day 23: Calls from Home About Moving Back
At an accounting firm in San Luis Potosí, Araceli (A), the department head, notices that the new accountant, Jimena (B), whose family lives in Matehuala, keeps getting calls.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio recordings are on the way. For now, each lesson is the dialogue with its English translation.

Es mi mamá. Desde que me vine de Matehuala, no deja de llamar.
It's my mom. Ever since I left Matehuala, she hasn't stopped calling.

¿Pasó algo, o lo que quiere es convencerte de que regreses?
Has something happened, or is it that she wants to talk you into moving back?

Eso mismo. Hoy volvió a decirme que allá también hay despachos contables.
That's it exactly. Today she told me again that there are accounting firms back there too.

A tu edad dejé de contestar, y fue peor. Mejor invítala: cuando vea la oficina, se calma.
At your age I stopped answering, and it only made things worse. Invite her instead: once she sees the office, she'll calm down.

Ay, contadora, o capaz que se queda a vivir conmigo.
Oh no, or she might end up moving in with me.
