Day 38: Cookie Sales for Puerto Vallarta

At a prepa, a high school, in Celaya, José Ángel (A) and his classmate Mariana (B) compare what they have saved for their class trip to Puerto Vallarta.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Spanish, for example from the Resources page. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

    Hey, how much have you got for Vallarta so far? I'm still at eight hundred pesos.

    Anoche estaba contando las ganancias cuando me di cuenta: ¡ya llevo tres mil!

    I was counting my profits last night when it hit me: I've already got three thousand!

    ¿Ganancias de qué? El mes pasado estabas igual que yo.

    Profits from what? Last month you were in the same boat as me.

    Volví a vender galletas en el receso. Tú deberías dejar de comprar papitas.

    I've gone back to selling cookies during break. You should stop buying chips.

    ¿Cuáles papitas? Todo mi dinero se me va en tus galletas.

    What chips? All my money goes to your cookies.

  6. B

    Con razón me va tan bien. Sigue comprando, que eres mi cliente más fiel.

    No wonder I'm doing so well. Keep buying, you're my most loyal customer.
