Day 78: Internship Hours Nobody Will Sign

At the university in Puebla, Juan Diego (A), a student doing his internship at a firm in the city, goes to see Marcela (B), the professor who coordinates internships.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense. Point at (or tap) a Spanish word to see what it means.

    At my internship, they won't sign off on my hours.

  2. B

    ¿Cómo que no? ¿Qué dice su supervisor?

    What do you mean, they won't? What does your supervisor say?

    Dice que solo me las firma si voy también los sábados, y los sábados trabajo.

    He says he'll only sign them if I go in on Saturdays too, and I work on Saturdays.

    Pues aunque a él no le guste, anote diario sus horas.

    Well, even if he doesn't like it, write down your hours every day.

    ¿Y si se enoja? Aunque yo tenga razón, él es quien firma la constancia.

    And what if he gets angry? Even if I'm right, he's the one who signs the certificate.

    No se preocupe: el licenciado Méndez fue mi alumno. A ver si se acuerda de quién le firmó las suyas.

    Don't worry: Mr. Méndez was a student of mine. Let's see if he remembers who signed his.
